Personally, my biggest issue with Cathay isn't the idea that they're too cool for school, it's that they're derivative (too similar to Tomb Kings, basically "what if Nehekhara was still alive but Chinese") and that they don't make good enough use of Chinese fantasy as a genre. If GW and CA decides to flesh them out I'm sure they'll be aware to keep things balanced. The hardcore fans will make up headcanon to fill the gaps to try and make the faction seem cooler. Problem is GW mentioned stuff here and there but didn't give the whole picture. I wouldn't want them if they turned out to be ridiculous Mary Sues. They would need fleshing out in both their strengths and weaknesses. I mean they did get annihilated during End Times like everyone else so they're clearly not all powerful utopias. I think they could be done without them being Mary Sue factions.

Plus I'm SE Asian so there's my cultural bias there. My favorite out of them is be the Khureshi Naga, just because they're the only none human faction from the Far East. I personlly would want all of them in if they're going to be done at all. I think it's simply because geographically it seems closest to the old world (it's actually not, Ind is). Three kingdoms have come, of course but I feel the initial wave is already waning. They are as much defined, and fantasy japan is very liked setting too. I wonder why people don't ask for NIppon as they go. Of course warhammer is missing clearly south asian influence, and including it wouldn't lessen it (it's already a big salad after all) The biggest issue, is that, in someway a bit like their inspiration, haven't had much contact or influence with the rest of the warhammer world. )Īlmost as if it was a distant record of an unknown place, with much exaggerated tales. Yeah, the explanation only cements my personnal feeling about Cathay : this is a mariesuesque faction (chaotic worship, celestial dragons, giants comets, automaton armies, largest nation on earth! etc. I've got other theories that I think also grounds the other Far Eastern races/kingdoms Ind/Nippon/Khuresh into the wider Warhammer setting but obviously it's just my own fanmade headcanon and probably wouldn't be to everyone's liking. It would explain why Cathayan Celestial magic is so much stronger than the in Empire of Sigmar. These could be other descendants of the Dracothion like being before it decided to take human form an became the first Cathayan Dragon Emperor. There's also the Cathayan Serpentine Dragons.

Some, if not all the Shugengan wizards could also be minor descendants of Imperial bloodline hence why they are called Dragon blooded. There's also the issue of the Cathayan Celestial Dragon Emperor and the dragon blooded Shugengan wizards.Ĭelestial Dragon Emperor as the name suggests may have actual links to some kind of Celestial Dragon/Drake, a being like Dracothion (to link it to AoS.) that took human form and founded the Cathayan Imperial bloodline. That would suggest Cathayan magic is as strong as the High Elves if not the Slann. The bringing down of the great maw was hinted as having been the work of Cathayan astromancers. Albion Truth Sayers for instance were taught by the Old Ones like the Lizardmen.

Not all human magics has to be taught to them by the High Elves. It was hinted that the Cathayans were as powerful if not more powerful than the Empire. Problem is the lack of lore and the fact that GW left many things unexplained. Of course I realise GW hasn't much delved on the lore of non playable entities, but still. There is also the issue in lore of why Cathayans should be able of such prowess when they haven't been actually taught by the high elves, like the empire did. Only TK have constructs so far, and it goes with the theme of egyptians architects and a civilization that doesn't rely on anything alive anymore.
